The process of developing a new service

Are you thinking about designing a new service or product? Are you looking for a tried and true model that will support you? Would you like to improve your existing offer?

New Service Development (NSD) or New Product Development (NDP) are methods that you should definitely adopt. They involve processes that focus on understanding your consumer, the market, competition and trends that influence your business.

The goals is simple – to introduce a service/product that will provide the highest value for the end-user while allowing a company to make profit and revenue.

How does it work?

Strategy and research


defining what is the purpose of a new service or product, studying potential customers, analyzing trends, business environment and generally a situation that we are in.

Conceptual stage


creating first solutions using e.g. brainstorming sessions, cocreation workshops with a client and a wide range of methods and tools supporting idea generation. Then, all solutions are evaluated and the most interesting ones are developed during following stages.

Prototyping and testing


at this stage, we create rapid prototypes of particular solutions and test them with customers. Owing to this, we get instant feedback on what works and what doesn’t.

a time for analyzing a given solution in business terms.

A final solution comes to life.

NDP and NSP reduce the risk of:

  • overestimating and not understanding your target market;
  • basing only on your own suppositions and not on customers’ real need;
  • introducing a poorly designed product or service that does not meet end-user’s requirements;
  • poorly pricing your services or products;
  • spending more money on developing a new solution that you have estimated
  • putting your company at risk caused by unexpected competition that you did not thought about beforehand
